This qualification is an introduction to the information and knowledge needed to work in a school environment. It can apply to the many varied roles that full and part time support staff may fulfil including: administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles and volunteers, as well as roles that work directly with children and young people in the school environment. It is aimed at learners not yet employed in a school, as well as providing initial training and induction for those new in post in primary, secondary or special schools. Please note that some knowledge of development in the early years has been included in the specification to enhance learners understanding.
This qualification is an introduction to the information and knowledge needed to work in a school environment. The units cover child and young person development, safeguarding the welfare of children and young people including legislation, and the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion. They also cover:
- communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
- schools as organisations, including types of schools, policies and procedures and the wider environment in which they operate.

The Award shares four mandatory units with the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. This enables credits and learning to be transferred from this qualification to the Level 2 Certificates, providing a direct progression route.
All of the units are assessed through written assignments. You will be given assignment tasks throughout the course with deadlines for submission of this work. These will be assessed by your course tutor and you will be given feedback.
You will be provided with a username and password, to log in our online learning platform. You will be able to access your course material, use the online resources and submit your assignments. You are required to participate in online forum, independent study, practical and creative work. If you have any queries, you are able to contact your tutor or one of our advisers by email, phone or arrange a virtual meeting (if necessary). Fast track is possible for those who are dedicated to studying at a fast pace, have resources and access to learning opportunities.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but learners will need to be at least 16 years of age. Learners should possess a formal qualification in any discipline and a good level of literacy and numeracy or willingness to work towards one during the programme.
It is suitable for learners aged 16 and above.
In order to secure a place on this e-learning programme, you must be able to meet the following conditions:
- Access to the internet with a valid e-mail address.
- Ability to study for minimum of 8 hours in a week for the duration of the programme
£0.00GBP (All inclusive). There are four parts to the cost of your course: Tuition Fees include Centre registration, Awarding Body Registration, Assessment Fees and Certification.
You are usually expected to complete the course within 4 months from the enrollment date. We however give you our learner an additional 2 months if they fail to complete during the normal duration which stretches the time period to a maximum 6 months!
Learners are able to complete the course within a shorter time depending on a number of factors which includes own commitment. However, learner joining the course with evidence of prior learning with a substantial number of credits will obviously be able to complete quicker! This is because the guided learning hours will also reduce.
